Abass Baraou vs Jack Culcay on August 28

Abass Baraou fights Jack Culcay on August 28 in Berlin.

The "Match of the Year!" has been announced. The boxing match between super welterweight Abass Baraou, 25, and Jack Culcay, 34, will take place on August 28 at the HAVELSTUDIOS in Berlin. This was agreed by the two boxing stables Agon Sports & Events and Team Sauerland following constructive discussions.

The main fight will be contested by Jack Culcay (28 wins - 4 defeats), former amateur and professional world champion and WBO International Champion, and WBC International title holder Abass Baraou (9 wins).

The winner of the fight will take second place in the IBF super welterweight rankings and will therefore be seeded for the next elimination fight for the world championship. It is a fight of superlatives, as the current number one in the German rankings (Jack Culcay) and the number two are facing each other.

Jack Culcay is being prepared by AGON head coach Michael Stachewicz in Berlin. Abass Baraou also recently trained in Berlin due to coronavirus. As entry restrictions to England have been relaxed, Baraou will now return to London and prepare for the fight together with his coach Adam Booth. Booth was the trainer of WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.

Abass Baraou: "I'm really looking forward to this fight and I'm more than ready to take it on. For me and Team Sauerland, it was clear from the start that we would take the fight. Jack is a great fighter with a lot of experience, but I'm sure I can and will beat him. Together with my team, I will prepare myself optimally and leave nothing to chance on my way to becoming the number one in Germany."

Jack Culcay: "The fight is one of the sporting challenges I'm looking for: fights at eye level against strong athletes like Abass Baraou.
It will be a great fight for the fans and a tough battle between the best super welterweights in Germany. I'm number one in the national rankings and I'll still be number one after the fight.
Thank you Ingo for fulfilling my wish. Let's master this task together!"

Nisse Sauerland: "I'm delighted that AGON and Team Sauerland were able to organise this great fight after good and fair negotiations. It's admirable that Abass has the courage to take on a world-class boxer like Jack in his tenth fight. Jack was also in our service and we learnt to appreciate him back then. But now is Abass' time, the future belongs to him!"

Ingo Volckmann: "AGON was the first boxing stable to organise a fabulous event in June despite coronavirus. With the fight between two of the world's best super welterweights, we will seamlessly continue this tradition. For me, the contest between Jack Culcay and Abass Baraou stands for the finest boxing. It's another milestone in our young stable's history and I'm sure that no one will stop Jack on his way to the world championships."
