Feigenbutz celebrates successful debut at middleweight
Vincent Feigenbutz beats Jama Saidi on points in the middleweight division. In the end, the judges' scores were 116-112 twice and 118-111 once.
Vincent Feigenbutz, the former interim WBA super-middleweight champion, celebrated a successful debut at middleweight in the run-up to the fight between Abass Baraou and Jack Culcay in Berlin. His opponent, Jama Saidi from Cologne, was only able to keep the first half of the fight balanced and then had to hand over the sceptre to his physically superior opponent.
In the end, the man from Karlsruhe, who suffered a bitter defeat in his last fight against super-middleweight world champion Caleb Plant, claimed a well-deserved unanimous points victory and the IBF intercontinental title at the same time. "We knew from the start that he was a strong man," said Feigenbutz about his opponent after the fight. "We knew we couldn't underestimate him. We took the fight very seriously and prepared well. And we put in a good performance."
In the end, the judges scored the fight 116-112 twice and 118-111 once. For Feigenbutz, who is only 24 years old, it was his 32nd win in his 35th fight as a professional. Feigenbutz, who switched to professional boxing at the age of 16 and with no amateur experience to speak of, put in a very controlled and considered performance - unlike in the past, when he liked to use a crowbar to impose his tactics in the ring and often lost control in the process. "The fact that I won the fight, now have a title again and am back at the top of the world is all the better," said a delighted Feigenbutz.
